Samsung announced its Virtual event of Mobile World Congress 2021 for next Monday (June 28), where the Korean giant “will unveil its vision for the future of connected watches”.
While the company hasn’t shared much more than that when it comes to MWC 2021, LetsGoDigital just found out that Samsung’s announcements at the event will be Samsung Watch Design Studio.
This discovery is based on a patent application filed by Samsung yesterday (June 22), which contains the following description:
As the description suggests, Watch Design Studio is specialized software intended for use by retail stores for the purpose of allowing customers to customize a Samsung smartwatch online before purchasing it.
A Galaxy Watch Studio of the same name (formerly Galaxy Watch Designer) is an app that has been available in beta for some time already, so the final version of that app could also be announced on Monday.
This latest app allows developers to create and even sell watch faces for Samsung smartwatches, namely Gear S3, Gear Sport, Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3.
Although the app is apparently aimed at developers, Samsung previously noted that it is in fact “intended for both hobbyists and experts.” It makes it easy to create original watch faces, especially for those who are familiar with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The beta version of Galaxy Watch Studio for Windows and MacOS is available for download at Samsung’s website right now.
In addition, during MWC 2021, Samsung is also expected to announce a security feature or application called Samsung Good Lock, which is described in its patent application as follows:
